( Ignore the MEDIA tag. I must be doing something wrong, every time I try to post that video link it just posts as a single image. I cannot get rid of the tag. )

The five events on the first day are done. The US won a gold and a bronze. Agota Balot who coaches at the Atlantic Fencing Academy in NJ but represents Austria won a bronze. Marie-Chantal Demaille of France won the silver medal in the Woman's Epee 70+ making it the 40th medal she's won in the Veteran World Championships since her first one in 1998.

Are you having the same problem I had in posting video links? All I see is a photo, no clickable link.

Does everyone else get a link?

( Just in case, you can find it under "Competition" and "Live" at the main web page,

I see that the 2019 Vet Worlds will be in Cairo, Egypt, and 2020 in Zagreb, Croatia. I seem to recall a brouhaha when they were announced to be held in some distant place, perhaps it was Mauritius or somewhere very obscure. Am I just making this up, or did something change?

Mauritius was talked about for hosting the 2014 Vet Worlds, but withdrew its bid. Gyor, Hungary was awarded the 2014 event but later backed out when a local sports team needed the venue or something. Debrecen, Hungary picked up the event and the local organizers did a very nice job overall.

A few years ago, Bali, Indonesia, was announced as the host of a Junior Worlds but I think that that bid was quickly withdrawn when they found out how much it would cost to ship the necessary equipment there. That might have been the reason for the withdrawal of the Mauritius bid, too.

Watching the video coverage...it seems very...Italian-centric.

The various Vet Worlds which I have attended were pretty general. They went on about veterans, and fencing, and veteran fencing, not about French veteran fencing, or Russian veteran fencing, or Australian veteran fencing, let alone Slovenian veteran fencing.

This one appears to be very much about Italian veteran fencing. At least that's the impression I get. Maybe it's the fact that the narration is in Italian. Maybe they're actually talking about all of the veteran fencers. But they do seem to be showing a lot of Italians fencing, sitting, talking, and not so much of anyone else...

I'm likewise having issues with the Italian site. Maybe just go to YouTube?

Nope, YouTube is just as bad.

What was up with non-combativity call after 35 seconds in second period?

Two periods of non-combativity, Walter has priority and Fischer gets one touch in the final 16 seconds. Then as Walter has to attack, Fischer gets three more touches. That "sucks" though it does happen in this case Fischer was able to take advantage of the non-combativity. What I find curious is that the referee halts the play in the 2nd period with 2:20 left on the clock to call non-combativity. Someone check me on that?

And looking for the final results of the Men's 70 epee, all I can get is a display to the table of 16 with Bruno Goosens and Frank Hewitt still in. Apparently 1 American didn't make the cut in the 70's.
