Veteran Fencers

    I dont think we should use the term veteran when referring to fencers over 40. That term is especially reserved for those that serve in the military. I served as peace corps instead.
    I quit military before entering training in 1972. I changed my mind. I wanted nurses training but realized it was a mistake. I would never refer to myself as military or veteran without having actually served.
    Do you think its appropriate to use the term veteran for a fencing category? Especially now that so many vets need real attention?

    I'm a 23 year Air Force retired Lt. Col.
    I fence foil.
    I think it's fine.

    Just use the word "VET" and not "Veteran".

    Thank you for your service. When reffing service academy cadet epees, they give me a push-up at tournament's end for every touch received, while I do one to their two. We do one additional for our fallen brothers.
