The normal fee entry deadline for the Summer Nationals was yesterday, so it might interest some to see how the number of entries this year compares to the last two years. Currently the total number entries to the individual events is over 10,000. Since there are a large number of fencers entered in more than one individual event, that means that the number of fencers who have submitted entries is probably about 5,000-6,000.

One thing to note is that the number of entries for this year will decrease as the NO goes through the entries and notifies those who do not meet that event's qualification criteria that their entry has been rejected. Also there are those who will withdraw their entries for personal reasons, etc. This will be somewhat offset by those who are saying "OMG" and will be submitting late entries before the triple-fee deadline in two weeks. Overall, though, the net effect should be a decrease and will probably be closer to 9,000.

The numbers shown for the two previous years are the number of entries around the time of the late-fee deadline and not the number who actually showed up to compete.

The second report shows the current numbers based on the days that they're competing. For the team events, I'm assuming that exactly three fencers will be competing for each team. So this report gives some idea as to the relative number of fencers who will be competing each day. Since the first report shows number of teams while this reports shows number of team fencers, the weapon totals will not be the same in the two reports.

It's a total of the veteran age group events but does not include the veteran combined events (the VET row, if they're being held) or the veteran team events. Since it's not possible to fence in more than one veteran age group event in a weapon, it probably gives the best ballpark number of veterans fencing in each weapon in a competition.

That's very fun and interesting. :) since I know they were originally forecasting around 4500 participants, I wonder now how many they actually have...
