No, that thing ATE the chickens. That's why it's Soldier's friend.

"Yay, now I can sleep at night!" Soldier is thinking.

Actually...I'm not so sure he'll last the night now.

He was hopping around just fine when I found him (though his eyes are barely open), but when I took another look at him later, he was just dragging himself around, not even really using his back legs. Now he's just lying on his side and squeaking...and even that looks like a real effort for him.

Do you think a cat bit him? If it did there's almost nothing you can do for it, poor thing. My cat found a nest of baby rabbits last spring, and over the course of a month brought us five of them, alive. Even though they died later. :( Oh well.

The thread title had a somewhat deterrent effect on me...until I saw the pic. Big sigh o relief, I tell you... ;)

No, to feed my family of eight we would need fifty baby rabbits. Plus I don't think my sisters would eat if they knew where the meat was coming from.

What should we name the little mousie, Soldier? How about chicken? ;)

He will remain the Mouse with No Name.

He will be buried beside the terrazzo just behind where the Wing Commander stands during noon meal formation, so that every time we march past and are given eyes-right, it will be to him.

Poor guy.... This reminds me of some pictures I seem to remember of soldiers in Iraq that had a little mouse they found. It's heartwarming.

Sorry to hear about that... it was good of you to take care of the little fuzzy, though.
