Does anyone know which halls of the Convention Center will be used for the fencing this coming weekend? Traditionally, the USFA waits for me to make hotel reservations and then picks the hall(s) that are FURTHEST from the hotel that I'm staying at but I don't see anything on either the USFA or Salt Lake Convention Center web sites indicating which halls will be used.

According to Cindi Williams Moore on the Veterans Fencing group Facebook page, it's halls B through E.

And there is a huge... something... called Fitcon using several halls as well. Lots of sports, everything from bodybuilding to gymnastics to sumo (which would be epic to see live). I wonder how much they charge?

They have a website (fitcom.com). As I recall it is $20 per day. A post on the Women's Veteran Fencing facebook page said that you can get a 25% discount by going to the website and typing in FENCING.

C rating or better ++. Probably an error.

I hope no one purchased wristbands in advance for this event (as encouraged by USFA), because not only were they unnecessary (door only “manned” once when I went in and out), but they were “no purchase necessary!” There was only one time that I saw the registration area staffed, with a box of loose wristbands sitting on the desk. So everyone helped themselves.

I would think it takes more than just having a c rating to qualify for this tourney. Does a fencer have to had achieved a certain ranking this year?

    Why would you think that?

Well, any C rating is the minimum, hence my “++.” You also need national rolling points in seniors, juniors or cadet in varying degrees.

Fencers can qualify with regional points but I still thought they had to be C and above. Well, she’s checked in. I asked the national office but didn’t get a reply.

I think modern pentathlon gets to enter some fencers into the div1 championships, could be one of those.

I’ll bet you’re right, I keep forgetting about pentathlon. And she finished tied for 70th.

    Page 38 of the AH
    Eligibly (age, classification, qualification path)
Fencers must be at least 13 years old on January 1 in the year of the competition (see Table 2.5.1 for exceptions). Fencers must have a classification of “A”, “B”, or “C” at the entry deadline and be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
