I currently use the old Leon Paul Men's Standard Plastron, (their starter 350N one) and I hate it. It doesn't wick at all and it quickly turns into a wet towel at tournaments. I was wondering what underarm protectors other people use, and why, since I am looking to replacing mine.

I like Leon Paul's Lightweight FIE plastron. It is pricy but it wicks really nicely and it doesn't feel like it is bunching up under my uniform

I had a custom 2-sided one made the last time I had my maker do some. Basically it's a double-layered t-shirt with a wide head hole and the seams properly placed.

I'm so used to it a standard one feels strange.

I also use the LP Lightweight FIE. Seems fine, and no velcro to fail. I'd stick with something nylon rather than cotton if you're tired of it getting soaked.

Practice, a 2-armed cotton sourced by Purp. Quite comfy but soaks up sweat like a beast.
Competition, a FIE Uhlmann. Never had a wetness problem.

Old Tripplette cotton for its cushioning.

I like the Absolute FIE - it's a more open weave, and allows more cooling air flow than the LPs.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'll definitely look at the LP FIE one, since it was recommended the most. However, it IS a bit expensive, so I'll definitely take the other suggestions into consideration.

Always pay for value. The difference between the cost of a LP FIE lightweight and economy FIE plastrons is $47. If you keep it for 4 years, that's less than a dollar per month.

If I skip one of my private lessons, I'd have saved enough to pay for the difference..
