    Hi,

I am thinking of switching to a french grip from pistol grip. However, I currently have 3 good blades all with short tangs. Are there any other french grips that go with the short tang besides the two mega expensive leon paul french grips?

    Thank you!

No. Your only option besides those LP grips is to get entirely new blades.

K O'N on here makes some french grips that will mount on a short tang. I think he sells them for $25 or something like that. I have a couple and they are similar to the LP grips, but smaller in diameter.

Many years ago, when I switched over to fencing with a french group, I took my short-tanged pistol grip blades to a welding shop and welded on tangs that I cut off from other broken blades. Surprisingly, it worked pretty well.

I have had this done a few time with some Vniti blades. Problem was the TIG weld cost was almost the same price as a brand new cheap wired blade. I can see a TIG weld would be cost effective for a higher-end FIE but not a cheap blade.

I don't see why you couldn't just slip a piece of steel tubing of the right inside diameter over the stub to extend the tang, then thread the end of the tubing. Might need to drill out the core of the grip a little to get it to fit over it.

Because the end over the tang would slide off.
The connecting rod would have to effectively be hollow with m6 female threading on one side, and male on the other for the pommel.
I did what Hang Ten did to a Vniti blade a few years ago when the tang snapped. $20 to a local welder who thought it was neat to work on an epee.

Or you could epoxy it on. Or solder it on. Or crimp it on.
