Can anyone refer a beginner to a good fencing group in Chicago? I have tried to contact CAAHC but their website has no content and no email contact. The only other resource in city limits seems to be the Chicago Fencing Club. However, on old posts I see some of you complain about 'Diane'. I am assuming this is the same Diane who runs the CFC. Any suggestions, guys? I'll go out to Mt. Prospect if need be. Thanks!!

I assume by CAAHC you mean CAAFC? They don't have much of a site, but there is an email address for membership enquiries ([email protected]). I've fenced in a few tournaments at CAAFC and they have pretty nice facilities. I know a few people that fence there, and they have good things to say about it, so you should probably check it out.

If you're talking strictly within the city limits there are 3 clubs, Chicago Fencing Club, European Fencing club, and the Chicago Athletic Association Fencing Club. Of the three I would recommend CAAFC. However, if you're willing to travel a little you might want to check out the Naperville fencing club in Naperville, IL.

The Diane you're referring to is probably Diane Dominguez, who used to run Fencing 2000, though it could Be DianA Note the A unger, who runs CFC. They have limited success and tend to focus on kids. If you're considering competing I would definitely go to CAAFC, but if you're looking for something recreational go to CFC. EFC has alot of success in the youth categories, but it fizzles with age.

And I'd like to note that, from my interactions with her, Diana (with an A) is a very nice person. Just for the record..... :)

i no longer fence with them, but the CAAFC is a great club. The facilities are quite nice, and the program is pretty good. coaches for foil and epee are excellent, i am not sure about sabre. good for you for pursuing fencing.
