I am a sabre, and was wondering what your opinions are on the various fencing brands. Which brand has the best electric weapons for sabre, and which one has the best shoes, gloves, helmet, etc. I just want to know where I can find the best quality equipment for competition. And please give me two responses, one where money is no factor, and one where it is. Thank you for the insight ahead of time

LOL i knew someone was going to mention the fact that i said im a sabre instead of a sabreur

Just in case you guys were wondering, i said it like that because at my school we have a tendency to refer to each other by what weapon we fence, e.g. i am a sabre and he is a foil

Actually I think it would be interesting to hear everyone's opinion for all three weapons.

    I'm a foilist.

I Like FIE Leon Paul X-Change Foil Mask.

    Weapon:
    BF White Blades.
    German Point.
Bayonet style body wires (and matching socket)
Don't give a crap about the guard
Allstar Pistol Grip w/ Lots of tape (can't stand the leon paul pistol grips)

    Kit:
All Star Jacket and Breeches, I find them lighter than the leon paul ones
    Don't care about the Lame

    Shoes:
The Asymmetric Adidas shoes were awesome, and though pricey tended to be worth the money. Baring that for training I like Asics court shoes (if I can find a deal on them) or the adidas En Gaurd. I find some of the other fencing shoes too bulky. I also always wear a plastic heel cup.

And I like any glove that isn't too thick. Must be leather, not the fabric ones.

This is what I use normally, and would still use if I was a millionaire.

To be perfectly honest, the best place to get equipment is where ever you can afford.
That being said, my primary weapon is sabre (I do fence some foil, but I'll leave that out as you're asking about sabre - and because half my foil stuff came from Santelli 13 years ago. lol). For me, the best place has been all of them. My gear has been bought as I could afford it, but started out with mostly BG stuff.
You really have to try things to know if you are going to like them. If money were no object, I dont think I would stray much from what I have except to have custom made stuff since I'm an odd size for gear.
    My gear:

Weapons: (Initially I had one BG and one AF Electric Sabres, this is what it has grown to)
Grips - LP Leather Wrap on all 4 sabres
Blades - LP Lightweight Gold blades on the 3 electric ready weapons
Guards - AF Lightweight guards on the 3 electric ready
Sockets - LP Bayonette on all 3 electric ready
    Pommels - LP Heavy Pommels
    Whites:
    Plastron - AF 350N Comfort
    Jacket: EscrimeUSA Performance Pro 350N
    Knickers: EscrimeUSA Performance Pro 350N
Glove: BG Value Washable functional glove
    Over-glove: AF Signature series cuff
    Lame: EscrimeUSA Performance Pro
    Mask: LP Exchange (both masks)
    Shoes: LP HighTech Blades
    LP Body cords
    AF Mask cords

I suspect you are a sabreur (or sabreuse if your name is misleading as to gender), or a sabrist, or a sabre fencer, and not actually a sabre.

For equipment discussions, the Armory section of the forum is probably a more appropriate location. Anyway, good luck getting any consensus as to the best equipment.

I was going to post a snarky version of this when I first read this post, then decided against it. Well done Dirk. Kudos for maintaining some level of civility on F.net.

You could have still posted something snarky. Instead, you chose to be Dirk's foil.

But if you are Dirk's foil, the operative question is what brand are you?

Mask: Leon Paul -everyone seems to agree that they're the best.
Jacket/Knickers: EscrimeUSA -everyone who has tried their stuff agrees that they're the best.
Gloves: The AF 3-weapon washable blue glove is pretty durable. Their leather one gave out after 1 direct blow to the knuckles.

That may vary, but I guarantee you're cheap.

The foil isn't necessarily cheap... but I can verify that Dirk is.
