Can someone explain why for Womens Saber they would start DV1 and DV3 at the same time? First off, instead of having a top notch group of referees to cover each event at separate times, they will now be grasping for referees who may not be quite as competent with saber. Secondly, separate event times gives the DV3 fencers a wonderful opportunity to watch the DV1 fencers compete. Just don't see any positive reason to do this but a number of negatives.

With both DV1WS and Vet MS on the same day, it doesn't matter when the DV3WS event would run, the top refs will be in either the DV1 or vet events because those are national team point events, while DV3 is not.

And let's be realistic, if DV3WS were to start at 2pm, how many of those fencers would show up early in the morning to watch the DV1 event? Probably not many. Instead, by the time the DV1WS final 8 are fencing, most DV3 fencers will be finished and still in the venue, so I think there will be plenty of opportunity to watch the top fencers fence.

The Vet sabre events don't start until 2:30 - 3 in the afternoon; the WS events will ( one hopes! ) be finished by then.

But the Div 1 and Div 3 WS are as mentioned both on at 8 am and refs will have to be apportioned between them.

While neither is a particularly large event as these things go, I half expect one to be flighted for want of refs---unless they have hired a lot of "trainee" refs for the Div 3.
