Hi Y'all. Not sure which thread this best goes under. Does anyone know the status of the Anaheim Hills Wildfire? Is it expected to reach Anaheim? I just saw it on the news this afternoon, though our local coverage is mostly on the Northern California wildfires in Napa/Sonoma counties. The news said it was "near Disney". Any SoCal folks have more reliable updates?

The fires are at least 5 miles east of where we'll be in Anaheim, and would have to burn though dense urban area to get there. That's not likely to happen since the area where the convention center/Disneyland is is mostly flat and not near the hills where the wildfires are.

Flights into SNA might be affected by the smoke, although it looks like ATC is routing them around the fire area.

Nowhere near the convention center currently. Probably not a worry in terms of the NAC. Terribly worrisome for many people in that part of Orange County, though :(

What's the concern in terms of air quality and how that pertains to athletics?

If it's what we call a Santa Ana wind condition, then the wind should be blowing towards the coast, rather than more west towards the convention center. I don't expect it to be too bad, but the winds could shift by the weekend.

Edited- I just looked again and the air quality is getting fairly bad in Anaheim. But again, I think with a couple of days to go, it should be ok.

Well, we are in an air CONDITIONED space after all, so unless the fires are right outside the venue, we should be ok.

It sounds like main issue is outdoor air quality for fencers planning to go to Disney between events...

    ...and zombies.

Because in any urban area, you always have to worry about zombies.

Extremely unlikely- Disneyland is surrounded for miles on all sides by pure concrete jungle, unlike Disney World in Florida.

I dunno, last time I was there I saw plenty of trees and bushes. Where there are trees and bushes, fire can go.

I'm in Anaheim a couple of blocks from the convention center. It smells a little of smoke, but the air is clear.

I'm staying 2 miles from the Anaheim convention center and everything is still good. It doesn't even smell like smoke today.

Those with breathing difficulties will notice a difference and should take all their medications with them. I am very glad I won't be there, as I would be coughing uncontrollably even when no one else is having a hard time.

Does any know if the flights into SNA are being affected now?

Doesn't seem to be an issue, so that's good.

I think the fire crews have a good handle on the fire right now....partially contained, last I heard.

Here now. Have not felt any difference in breathing. Can see smoke in the distance, and it was clear on the approach flying into SNA, but 0 delays. Taxi driver reported that the fire is now "60% contained."
