Temple Open Not Foiled by Sandy

In spite of the advance of Hurricane Sandy, the Temple Owls ran their usual successful event.  The original entry count of 575 athletes continues to make the Temple Open the largest individual collegiate tournament in the country. refFinder – Helping to Connect Referees and Tournaments

During a pause at a recent tournament I took a few minutes to record an interview with Phil Butler, one of the masterminds behind refFinder.net. At a mere 21 years of age, Phil has started what appears to be an essential part of the future of fencing.

Creator Phil Butler hopes that tournament organizers are quick to adopt his referee finding service.

We’ll Miss you Barb

On August 25 the US fencing community lost one of its best advocates and most dedicated workers. Barb Lynch, after four years of fighting, finally succumbed to ovarian cancer.

Always ready with a witty joke, Barb brighted up many a long tournament day.
