ATLANTA – Keeth Smart of the Peter Westbrook Foundation used a 7-0 run to start the second period to clinch a win over opponent Mike Momtselidze.  In the Gold Medal match of the US National Championships, Momtselidze went into the first period break with an 8-7 lead over Smart.

Smart came out of the break on a tear, scoring 7 unanswered points in a series of attacks, counter-attacks, and ripostes that Momtselidze didn’t seem to have any answers to.

With the score at 14-8, Momtselidze attempted a comeback and seemed to have regained the momentum by scoring back to back touches to bring the match within reach.  A final attack by Smart ended the comeback at 15-10.
