Women’s epee speaks Chinese tonight as Li Na (CHN) defeated her teammate Sun Yojie (CHN) 13-7 in the final to win the 2011 World Championship in Women’s Epee.

Ana Branza (ROU) and Anca Maroiu (ROU) earned Bronze medals.

Most though Maroiu had her semi-final match locked up.  The match was in the 3rd period when non-combativity was called, putting the fencers directly into an overtime minute.  Na was awarded priority on a random draw.  Early in the overtime minute, Maroiu scored, and then went up by 3 points.  Na fought back and scored the equalizer with no time left on the clock for Maroiu to score.  Since Na had priority, she was awarded the victory and the chance for the gold.

Three US fencers made the final 64.  Lindsay Campbell fell in her match to Simona Alexandru (ROU).  Maya Lawrence led all the way through her bout, taking out favorite Laura Flessel-Colovic (FRA) 15-14 in the 64 but would fall in the 32 to Sarah Daninthe (FRA).  Courtney Hurley won decisively against Yun Hee Oh (KOR) 15-5, but lost to Li Na 15-13 in the 32.
