Tim Morehouse fenced his way to the quarterfinals of the Istanbul world cup in Turkey on January 16th.  He placed 6th, losing to Romania’s Gelu Florin Zalomir 15-12.

Meanwhile, Gerek Meinhardt fenced in the men’s foil cup in Copenhagen and finished 9th.  Tomer Or of Israel was his ouster in a 15-13 bout.  Or would lose in the next round and finish 6th.

On his blog, Tim details the tactical thinking that turned a 12-13 deficit into a 15-13 ticket into the quarter-finals.  The post includes video time stamps as well so you can see the actions Tim refers to.  That post is a good read into the mind of a competitive fencer.
