The US Men’s Foil squad defended it’s Junior Men’s Foil Team title by defeating Italy 45-42 in the final match.  Edoardo Luperi (ITA) attempted to steal a victory from the US by going on a late run against Alex Massialas, but Massialas held on to get the 5 points he needed in the final bout of the team gold medal match vs. Italy.

Earlier in the day the US team also had a tight match against France, but used a 13-2 run by Massialas to take the lead 25-22 and another 6-4 bout by David Willette to get the US ahead 35-34.  The US won 45-43.

The gold medal was the US team’s final medal of the 2011 Cadet and Junior World Championships.  In the Nations Ranking, the United States came in 3rd with 292 points.  Russia led the way with 368 points followed by Italy in 2nd with 348.

Junior Team Women’s Epee

China and Russia saved the fast paced bout for the end as Anqi Xu went 17-10 against Violetta Kolobova in the final bout to give China the 45-35 win in the gold medal match.

The United States placed 5th after losing 45-41 to Israel in the round of 8.  Israel would go on to take 4th after losing matches to Russia (45-41) and Italy (45-38).
