Daryl Homer (St. John’s), Aleksander Ochocki (Penn State), Avery Zuck (Notre Dame), and Evan Prochniak (UPenn) advance to the semi-final direct eliminations.

After all of the preliminary bouts were complete, Daryl Homer and Aleksander Ochocki were tied with 19 wins and an 0.826 win percentage each.  Homer, however, gave up 12 fewer touches over the course of the 23 bouts to place 1st out of the pool with a +52 indicator vs. Ochocki’s +42.

When fencers are tied for number of wins/win percentage, the next indicator is the +/-, or touches scored minus touches received.  Ochocki actually scored two more touches (107 to 105) but was hit 12 more times than Homer.

Avery Zuck notched up 18 wins and Evan Prochniak 17 to round out the top 4.

The four fencers will next fence 15 touch direct elimination bouts to determine the 2011 NCAA Individual Champion in Men’s Sabre.  Homer will face Prochniak and Ochocki will face Zuck.  The elimination bouts are 15 touches and these bouts to not count for the overall team score.

In the pools, Homer lost to Prochniak 5-4.  Ochocki defeated Zuck 5-4.
