A manchette is a term most often used to describe a sleeve or glove covering the hand or forearm.
In fencing, sabreurs wear a special glove covering called a manchette on their weapon hand. The manchette is worn on the hand and wrist in conjunction with a lamé, either over the fencer's glove, or has recently become more popular, as a part of the glove itself. The manchette conducts up to, but does not exceed, the wrist area and provides for the full valid target to be accessible in sabre.
