August 16: USFA:  Dan Kellner (Warren, N.J.) had a fantastic Olympic Games, coming one touch short of reaching the quarterfinals.

Kellner, going into the competition seeded 26th, upset Cedric Gohy of Belgium (the #7 seed) 15-12 in the round of 32.

Kellner held the lead at 14-12 but was nipped in sudden death by Richard Kruse of Great Britain in the round of 16. The final score was 15-14.

Jon Tiomkin (Hewlett, N.Y.) faced an exceptionally tough seed in the round of 32: Andrea Cassara of Italy, the #1 seed. He lost 15-3. Earlier, in the incomplete table of 64, he had defeated Maher Ben Aziza of Tunesia 15-10. Cassara has at this time advanced to the medal rounds.

Jed Dupree (Bethlehem, Pa.) lost his first bout in the round of 64 to Sofiane El Azizi of Algeria by the heartbreaking score of 15-14.

Tomorrow, U.S. Women’s Saber fencers Sada and Emily Jacobson (Dunwoody, Ga.) and Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.) take on the world in individual competition! Tune in to BRAVO -- the competition will be broadcast at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.

From early morning to late evening the team leader, Bob Largman, is keeping track of the athletes who are fencing that day and the bus they need to be on for enough time to warm up prior to their competition.
