Summary: Durable and Light
September 9th, 2009

The blade is light and holds it's shape very well.  I have gone through quite a few other blades but the Leon Paul keeps on going.

The only downside is that the blade is almost too light.  Parrys that are high on the forte are not that strong.

The feel of a Leon Paul is different than any other blade.  Once you get used to it the blade feels pretty good.  When I used Leon Paul blades for a while I had a hard time switching to any other type of blade.

Summary: LP non FIE blade: light as a feather, incredibly durable, and great for the fencers who prefer speed and timing without brute force.
February 15th, 2009
I'm a big fan of the Leon Paul blades, especially with a french grip. Being a rather short fencer of 5'8'' I like the idea of the french method of fencing (using/redirecting the opponents force against them). It's a great buy if you're like me and prefer to let your opponent "run himself through" onto your blade, as opposed to using an aggressive muscular approach against the opponents blade. The balance of the leon Paul blade is incredible, it's light, and it lasts extremely long! I would highly recommend this for the competitive fencer who can't afford to replace blades every few months due to snapping.

As kind of an added bonus, (if you like an arc in your blade) the Leon Paul naturally forms an even arc over time without creating weak spots that require constant straitening, which is great for accessing the short targets like the hand, wrist and forearm.

Overall, my favorite epee blade by far!

Summary: LP Non-FIE Epee Blade
December 11th, 2008

Very nice blade, if you like the feel. As others have said, these are VERY light. I have been using mine for about 18 months now. They start extremely straight (i.e. hard to set a curve in them), but eventually they adopt a nice curve that can be hard, if not impossible to eliminate. Nothing that prevents them from being legal for use, but be advised if you want a totally straight blade, this is not for you.

Regarding the feel: Mine has a tendency toward vibration, kind of a tuning fork effect, during beats. As others have stated, blade actions must be cleaner with less margin for error with these, as the reduced mass impairs their ability to overwhelm in beats, parries, and oppositions.

They are very durable. I have only seen a single one break in our club, which was against me while giving a lesson. That blade was 3 years old.

If at all possible, try to borrow one from a teammate before buying one. I like mine, but your mileage may vary.

Summary: Pretty Good
December 11th, 2007
I liked and still like this blade but im too aggressive to use it. Its hard to feel the parries and beats with this blade. It is light so its easy to move around and can flick but Im going to upgrade to something with more feel. Recommend for Defensive/counter fencers that like to disengage a lot. Good with French grip if you are defensive. Overall I like this blade because its pretty much indestructible but the weight and balance bothers me. Would recommend to Intermediate fencers.

Summary: It is just OK
April 9th, 2007
This blade is alright. I don't like the fact that it is super flexible. If you lik eto use a lot of flick hits this is your blade. If not then I wouldn't recommend it. My biggest problem is it is really hard to feel your opponents blade. While the area I can parry on my other blades is from my Forte about eight inches up. With this blade to get any kind of power I have to parry abou three inches from the bell. Also the fact that is it flexible make anykind of opposition near impossible.

The advantage of teh blade is that you can't break it. I have bent it at 90 degrees and then it didn't break. The problem is that it holds the bend. I have had a blade and I bent it late last year/early this year and it is still bent. I have done everything known to man and it is still bent.

Summary: Really light!
April 2nd, 2007
- The lightest epee you'll find anywhere

- Any ones I've had so far have been very flexible which is great for a flicking game, but for beats or parries it doesn't cope so well!

- They last forever! Far longer than even some FIE epees. Once they do get a kink, however, it's very very difficult to get rid of it due to the shape of the blade itself.

- If you're looking for a lightweight, long lasting epee that's great value for money, this is the blade to go for! And I'm sure that if you can check a few from a batch you'll be able to find a few not-so-flexible ones.

Summary: Light: Makes Opposition harder.
January 29th, 2007
I switched to this weapon from my Vniti, and it is EXTREMELY light. At first, I thought I really liked it, but I was not winning. I realized that it was because I was trying beats and takes with it. The opponent easily powered through it, and therefore, I was killed. It's very fast, and won't break, a plus, but for the more "blade-on" fencers out there, I reccomend a good BF or Vniti.

Summary: Worth every penny
May 20th, 2006
These blades are excellent, well balanced and tough. They are worth paying the extra cost, they stand up far longer than a cheaper blade, plus they are about half the weight. They are really flexible, if you aren\'t into that but it suits me.

Summary: LIGHT
October 11th, 2005
i was surprised by how light the epee was. at first, the blade looked a bit awkward from other epee blades, like BG's, but that's not a big deal at all. its lighter than my foil...but that's not saying much since its made from blade fencing. if you're an epee fencer, you MUST get this.

Summary: My favorite
September 28th, 2005
It looks like my blade will last a while. It shows little effects of wear from 4 practice nights a week for the past 3-4 months. It's very light (obviously) making control of the tip very natural. May take some time trying to wire. It's not as easy as other blades to wire in my opinion.

Summary: A good blade
August 15th, 2005
I recently purchased 2 of these plus an assortment of epee parts.

This is one of leon pauls best products by a mile. The only flaw is the lack of weight in the forte. These blades are light, flexible and durable.

Summary: the only epee blade

This is now the only epee blade i will use. I have had excellent service from my blades. Love the feel, and would highly recommend. Unless they change, this is what I am sticking to.

It's a very good blade, light, everlasting, etc. It's almost too light, though, and beats are weaker accordingly. It also bends weird for flicks, etc.

Summary: Good lite blade
January 23rd, 2004
We have 2 of these at our club, one has lasted for over a year and I've had mine for just over 4 months. Its very durable, and very lite. It took a little time for me to get used to the new weight, all of my parries were going fairly wide, but after you adjust its very, very nice.

Summary: The lightist epee made!
November 8th, 2003
These are wonderful epees. They are light, fast and easy to move. I have had several over the years and have never broken one. (they tend to suddenly bend to a 45 degree angle from which there is no recovery.)

My only complaint is what makes others love it. The blade tends to develop a pronouced curve that will not go away. If like me you prefer a straighter blade this will annoy you. Otherwise it is the ideal epee.

Summary: the best

these blades are the only that i will use. they are light, flexable and very durable. they will develop a nice bend over time and the ONLY ONE that i ever broke was about 3 years old, with pretty heavy usage. they seem pricy at first, but when you take into account thier durability you will save a bundle. plus they just look cool

Summary: light, but don't last
July 19th, 2003
Had problems with kinks that led to broken blades with these. They are light, and a lot more "flicky", tended to get mangled fencing with some of the more "brute force" men on the teams.

Summary: My preferred Epee blade
June 26th, 2003
I love these blades. I like the lack of lateral movement in the tip and the springiness of the blade. They also tend to take a 'nice' bend and not end up S shaped. The vertical movement is highly variable so I would always recommend picking them up from a stall.

Summary: Great Value
June 25th, 2003
While I don't think the Leon Paul epee blades have the best feel of any blade manufactured, they feel good and balance well and the stiffer blades from LP feel great. However, the reason I now use these blades exclusively is the durability. I break an average of a blade per year between 4 weapons. Note that's one blade per year not one blade per weapon per year. The only thing I don't like about the blades is that the feel varies greatly between blades.
