Summary: Fear the Steel.
December 13th, 2006
Alex sent me a free trial version of this almost a year ago now, and after a year of being abused by a heavy-handed fencer, and anyone else who needed a spare blade, I am ready to gush, and whine about the LP Epee point.

First off, the good. The barrel is near indestructable, and I can prove this, as I got bored after snapping the blade that the point was on, that I took a hammer to the barrel. It left scratches, and that\'s about it. The tip travel is consistent and perfect, I\'ve had to adjust the tip a total of four times in a year, including three nights a week practice and a tournament every other month or so. I have yet to lose a screw, or fail the weight test with the point, and I do enjoy a good bone-jarring hit from time to time.

Note that I didn\'t rate the point excellent, but the flaws are only minor, and could have been as much my fault as it was the design. The wire itsself is somewhat fragile, and I had to fix a few weapons where the point itsself got dirty, and simply would not glide. The biggest complaint is that LP stuff isn\'t compatable with anything else. Their screws fit in other epee tips, but because they make them of such hard steel, once you use a LP screw, you\'re stuck with \'em. Not such a bad idea, as of my writing this, they\'re still the best.

Overall, I\'d buy more of these, I just need to start snapping more blades so I can justify buying them. Alex and Barry make a good product, and they were super-cool to share it for free with me.

Excellent tip, about time somebody made some imporvements! I\'d become very fed up with German tips. I\'ve had three of my barrels that say \"Made in Germany\" split vertically in half, and began looking into other types of tips. I was worried these were more gimmicky than anything, but not at all, not one bit. Excellent finish to these makes them slide ever so nicely. This is the first tip I put together, and had to do absolutely NO tip tweaking to it whatsoever! It passed weights and shims beautifully, as noted before, they NEVER catch upon being depressed from any angle, and are just an overall joy to work with/put together/fence with. Getting it all put together and putting that first grub screw in felt as good as sex, yay!

Summary: Durable, easy care.

I fence electric three nights a week. The tips hold up really well. The screws infrequently need tightening. Before competition, when I check my tips with shims and weights they often need no adjusting. The springs stay where you set them! (which is a very nice thing). I think any smoother of a travel would be impossible, or almost like cheating if it could be achieved! So this is a great tip.

This is a relatively smooth tip, however, dont expect it to just make your day, as its not that smooth. I bought it expecting a tip that was smooth as lubed ice and got what would be the quality of a regular german tip. I do hope that the durability makes up.

I got these on my new FIE epee...The glide is smooth as silk and EVERY hit registers...Both my friend's and my older epees with the standard Santelli tip are kind of intermittant and not as smooth...These are GREAT.

The travel in these tips is smooth from start to finish. I've used German tips for the past 5 years and not been able to find similarly smooth movement in any tip. I've routinely tested the travel depressing the tip from various corners of the tip to place more resistence and there are NO snag points. From whatever angle it's depressed the tip smoothly passes through the barrel.

Summary: Easy Care

I have been using these tips for about 2 years now. I have not had to clean or polish any of them, which saves me 3-5 hours before a tournament. I also have not had to file down any burs in the screw grooves (which was a regular ritual with both the french and german points). The only complaint I have is that none of the US vendors carry them.
