BG Jacket Cotton/Nylon Front Zipper
I got this jacket to replace another. First off, just as a heads up, BG runs small in larger sizes. Second, the zipper is kinda funky. It is plastic, and the placement is weird. In every other jacket I\'ve had, the zipper/velcro is further off the side. This jacket goes right over the pecs. It feels strange and puts a little more pull on the zipper when you are suiting up. Not bad if you are a skinny, but with a little meat (yeah that\'s it) on you, go larger than you think.

I've been using this jacket for about 4 months now. It's my first jacket, and can only compare it to the heavy cotton club jackets. I am very satisfied with it so far. As mentioned by ordway, it does offer good protection against bruises and breathes a little better than a full cotton jacket, but not as well as a full nylon jacket. My jacket does have a D-ring on the back and I have had no problem with the zipper skipping. It is also 350N rated, and as far as I know there aren't very many jackets that are 350N rated for around $50.

I've had this jacket for less than a year and I've decided to get a full nylon jacket instead. I like how this jacket isn't too thick, and feels better than most cotton jacket. This jacket is good for beginners, but if you think you're going to keep fencing or perfer more comfortable jackets, just get the 100% nylon one. It doesn't cost that much more, and you won't regret it :)

I found this jacket to be very disappointing. The stretch nylon back panel was nice for movement, but it was thin and made the jacket look cheap, as if they'd run out of fabric and had to make do with scraps of another jacket. The zipper was very cheap plastic and continued to skip. It took me 4 or 5 tries to get the thing zipped up correctly. Finally, there was nothing for me to clip to when fencing electric. Fencing foil, this isn't really an issue since there's a D-ring on the lame, but it makes fencing epee a real challenge.

This is one of the better cotton jackets, especially for the money. The nylon panel in the back adds much-needed ventilation. Overall it is fairly heavy - this is both a plus (protection against bruises) and a minus (hot). The zipper closure is much better than the velcro on other lower-priced jackets, and is quite durable. For the price it is an excellent value.

The jacket is quite durable and affords good protection.
It's roomy without being baggy or hanging. The neck opening is a little larger than other jackets I've worn but not so much to pose a safety hazard. It also has a nice lining around the neck to prevent chaffing.
The strap that goes under the crotch is made of elastic which provides for movement. It is quite long though and leaves a lot hanging down the back when in place.
