Summary: Great Lame!
February 18th, 2005
I got this Lame about a month ago. The lame's I had previously been using belonged to the club and were made by PBT. I'm particuarly sensitive to heat, so even though they were supposed to be lighter than some, I had over heating issues.

Needing a good, quality lame, I decided to try Leon Paul. The reviews I had seen of Triplette's and Infinity's lightweight lame's seemed bad quality wise. I'm glad I got it. So far, no tears. The lame is light and comfortable. I've been gaining weight, so I got a size bigger than my jacket just in case. It still fits fairly well, though the elastic cuffs are too big to fit to my wrist, so It's a bit of a pain to stuff it into my sabre glove.

In several places, when hit by a sabre, there are black lines. The lame does not appear damaged in any way, though it looks dirty due to the line. I haven't directly applied detergent to the lame, but they haven't come out by washing yet. A nice thing about this lame is that I can just throw it in the washing machine and let it air dry, as opposed to other lame's requiring more careful washing care.

The lame also has a smooth surface, making it a little less likely that a blade will catch and tear. The only issue I have (other than the size of the cuff) is the lack of a blade collar. I have read of circumstances where a blade got under the bib, and a fencer was saved by the blade collar. So if a blade collar is important to you more than a good quality, light lame, I would shop around.
