The SG-11 is the club machine from Fencing Technologies (manufacturers of the SG-12). Essentially it is a SG-12ST without integral timer and scorekeeping, and the SG-12ST is currently the standard machine for USFA national competitions so that's saying a lot.
The SG-11 is extremely compact – if not for the collapsible stand the machine wouldn’t be much larger than a power strip. With the frame collapses the machine fits into a flat case not much larger than a three-ring binder.
The SG-11 uses groups of LED’s rather than incandescent bulbs. This allows the machine to draw much less current than older machines. The LED’s are arranged in a curved array that allows good visibility from the sides. Unfortunately the bi-color LED’s are used for both on and off-target lights and the off-target lights are yellow rather than white. This can make it difficult for some people to distinguish between on and off target, especially if they are a little bit colorblind.
If you don’t mind the arrangement of the LED’s it’s not a bad machine. If you like the SG-12ST but can’t afford one then this is probably a nice alternative. However if you don’t like the SG-12ST then you probably won’t like the SG-11 either.
