Summary: not good but not too bad
October 30th, 2004
ok, these shoes are absolutely ugly!! when i look down at them i'm like: "ok, its only for fencing, think FEEL, FEEL, not looks". initially, the feel was ok. they are light and gives good traction when on fencing strips. if you use them on gym floors or any other non fencing surface, you'll be slipping and sliding. for me, they've lasted a while and have been to a few tournaments. even won a medal or to in them. hehehe. my mobility and balance is not there even though they are pretty light. when you advance and retreat really fast your feet tend to roll. right now i'd prefer cross trainers or running shoes as these give more stability and balance and i do move better in them.

Summary: False economy
October 19th, 2004
Bought these for my 14 year old son and they began to come apart after about three weeks of classes and four fencing meets. A real false economy; inexpensive initially but will have to be replaced after little use.

Summary: Cheap!
May 18th, 2004
I don't know why Mr. Chen thinks blue, lime green, and shiny black go togeather, but that's the way they are. They are comfy, and much better than sneakers. The sole inserts do tend to slide, tho. For $30, however, you really can't go that wrong.

Summary: Decent; not the best
March 7th, 2004
As a change from my old running shoes (which QUICKLY tore the back of the sole off), these were a fairly nice alternative. For a modest fee, you get a decent shoe with pretty good traction. The soles wore VERY quickly for me, and within 4 months of buying the edges of the shoes are almost completely worn due to lunging. The other problem I have with them are the soles inside the shoes. They are not well placed at all, and I had to superglue both of them to keep them in place. The bottom of the shoe is some form of wood and is not always the nicest to land on, especially from a deep lunge. Overall, it isn't a BAD shoe, and it is probably a good "first" shoe for people trying to save some greenbacks.

Summary: Like the gum rubber sole
October 27th, 2003
I really like gum rubber soles like these have. Much better on semi-slick surfaces like linoleum. Seem well-made, though a bit plasticy-looking. I got the high-tops on sale. Run a smidge small (I'm 10.5, sometimes 11 - I got 11's and they're barely large enough). Overall I'm quite happy, and doubly so at the price.
