This was and still is my first jacket and its served me well but I will echo what's already been said. The fit isn't horrible but it isn't great either, it IS thick and very heavy (I don't get many welts), the weapon arm is layered more than the non-weapon and that is the extent of my concerns with the jacket.
I don't have a problem with the velcro too much, it zippers all the way up until the collar bone or so and its holding up alright after many washes.
In short:
Pros-Durable and protects well.
Con- Fit may not be great, bulky feeling, rather thick.
It is however, a good beginners jacket.

I had one of these for a long while before switching to a different brand/style with a better fit. I really ended up disliking the velcro closure - it never closes quite correctly, it seems, certainly not as securely as a zipper. The fabric is very heavy, which means that it protects well against bruises, but it's also hot and a bit stiff. The overall fit was so-so; there's really no tailoring or tapering of the jacket waist, so it's maybe not the ideal cut for a woman.I found that the durability was satisfactory: when I replaced it, it was still in good condition.

One of these was my first ever fencing jacket. I still have the jacket somewhere, but no longer use it.
I had several problems with it. Mine was in theory custom cut for me, as I am a larger that average guy, but despite having given them my exact measurements, the jacket still fit poorly. It was a bit short, the sleeves where a bit long, and it was about four or five inches to big around the waist.
The jacket is made from a very heavy denim that is, well, very heavy. The jacket weighs a lot, it takes forever to dry, and does not move as well as I would like, but that could be more of an issue with the fit as opposed to the material itself.
I also had problems with the Velcro that was used, as it was not very strong after a few washings, and I eventually replaced it. The only good side is that the thick fabric does a good job of absorbing slaps and whips.
Overall I would say for the money you could do much better getting a nylon or cotton jacket from another company. It will most likely weigh less, fit better, and last as long or longer.

This jacket is okay for a club jacket or a recreational foil fencer. I found that after starting epee and sabre, it was developing holes on the front. It's fit and cut is fair. The heavy denim takes forever to dry after fencing or washing. The velcro fastener doesn't last very long either. I replaced this jacket after a year and a half of fencing.
