Summary: Not worth the risk

We use to purchase these mask for our beginners classes but the mesh is just too weak. This is very similar to the collegiate mask that Santelli also sells. After a year or two the mask is just not safe to use. It's not worth the risk!

Summary: Good! But take care of it
October 19th, 2003
This mask is not allowed for competition, and not recommended for bouting. The bib is small and detachable, affixed to the mesh of the mask with a series of metal snaps. I bought this mask to give lessons with, and it is quite good for that purpose -- light, leaves your ears uncovered, and has a leather band over the bridge of the head for receiving sabre cuts. I was thinking the bib could be detached and washed, to solve hygiene. Instead, the snaps were the first to rust, first requiring replacement bibs, and now destroying the mask unless I can poke new grommety things through the mesh. The mask will last a long time if it can be dried out between uses, so don't store it (like me) in a sweaty equipment bag.
