I purchased the two foil fencing DVDs based on the claim of a complete and comprehensive training system. Unfortunately all the videos do are provide various demonstrations of loosely commented techniques for the viewer to observe. There is no real coaching at all. I was especially disappointed in the tactics DVD wich contained no bouts whatsoever and no detailed explanations of the applications of various techniques and tactics, only more repetitive exercises.
Only about 60% of the commentary seems translated to english and none of the instructor's corrections at all. The DVD is also poorly encoded limiting the output quality of anything other than a TV screen (ie a computer monitor), no advantage has been taken of the extra capacity to store higher resolution images and the menu system has several graphical flaws. In fact, on some software DVD players the menu system doesn't work at all. As a minor gripe, hearing the tacky introduction music over and over again caused me to grimmace on more than one occasion.
There is value in the DVDs for an intermediate fencer looking to examine propper techniques but I'm afraid not much more.

There's some value here, but it's hard to follow the footage. The video isn't of the greatest quality. The content of what's being shown is high. The drills follow Tyshler's book and I've heard that following along the video with the book in hand is the best way to get good value from the videos.

The Tyshler training materials are excellent. They are excellent technical and tactical training guides. They present a system of training designed to deliver results to fencers at all levels of competition.
The videos are suitable for intermeidtae to advanced fencers and (perhaps especially) coaches looking for new ideas and a system of training that will develop their students' abilities.
The exercises they present are practical, whilst still developing the technique and motor reactions of the fencer.
The foil cd rom gives a set of exercises and drills that will improve your foil fencing, no matter what level of fencer you are. This is not a 'teach-yourself' guide, but will complement your existing training regime.

I have the Tyshler video, and bought it when I first started in the sport. It was useless to me. It spoke of things like the double dis-engage and I had never even tried a single. I think that it would probably be slightly better now that I'm further into training, but now I listen to my coach instead of worry about videos.
Not a bad thing to look at to see the sport and see what the moves look like, but only after you know the moves first.
