Katherine Holmes, a Cadet fencer from Washington, DC, is one of the finalists of Sports Illustrated for Kids "Sports Kid of the Year" contest. According to one Fencing.Net member, "she is a great up-and-coming fencer, who took gold in Y-14 as well as bronze in Cadets, Juniors, Seniors, and Div IA at Nationals. And you know that she is funny, smart, and modest."

The United States team of James Williams, Keeth Smart, Jason Rogers, and Tim Morehouse took the Silver medal today in the 2008 Olympic men's team sabre competition. The heavily favored French team of Nicolas Lopez, Julien Pillet, and Boris Sanson won the match 45-37.
The US men's sabre team of Jason Rogers, Tim Morehouse, and Keeth Smart rallied from a 35-40 deficit to defeat Russia 45-44 in the semifinal round of the Olympic men's team sabre competition. The United States will face France for the Gold medal.
The United States Women's Foil team of Emily Cross, Erinn Smart, and Hanna Thompson won the silver medal in the team competition today. They lost to top ranked Russia 28-11. This is the United States' first ever medal in the women's foil discipline. The United States team entered the Olympic Games as the 7th seed and were expected to lose their first match against 2007 world champion Poland.
The United States women's foil team will fight Russia for the gold medal after they held on to defeat Hungary 35-33. Russia won a controversial call in overtime of their match to advance 22-21 over Italy. Italy will face Hungary for the bronze.
