Page 1 of 3 Valentina Vezzali added yet another world championship to her resume as she defeated fellow Italian Margherita Granbassi 11-8 in the final bout. The Italian women showed that they are the team to beat in women's foil as they took gold, silver, and bronze.
Emily Cross was the highest finish for the US, placing 12th after defeating Poland's Sylwia Gruchala in the round of 32, but falling to Italy's Ilaria Salvatori in the round of 16.
Italy dominated the women's foil event, placing all four of their fencers in the top-8 and three in the top-4. Aida Mohamed of Hungary tied for 3rd with Trillini.
