In early rounds of the 2007 World Championships, defending world champion Rebecca Ward was ousted by Poland's Alexsandra Socha 15-14 in the round of 32.

The defeat of Ward prevents a replay of the 2006 final matchup of Ward and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Mariel Zagunis, who would have met in the semi-finals based on the direct elimination table.

Dagmara Wozniak was also eliminated in the round of 32.

Sada Jacobson and Mariel Zagunis advanced to the quarter finals before they were defeated by Italy's Gioria Marzocca and Poland's Bogna Jozwiak.

This is the first world championship in 3 years in which a US fencer has not medaled in women's sabre.
