The 2005 senior world cup season is now underway and the triumphs of US fencers through the last quadrennial and the 2004 Olympic Games show every sign of carrying on into the next.

At a Grand Prix World Cup In Paris, France last weekend, 2004 Olympian Dan Kellner (28, Warren, N.J.) reached the final of eight alongside the strongest fencers in the world.

And at a men's epee World Cup in Kuwait City in early January, 2004 Olympian Cody Mattern (23, Tigard, Ore.) earned a silver medal.

After the seventh-place finish and his top-16 finish in Athens, Kellner now stands ranked #22 in the world. And Mattern is now #13 in the men's epee standings -- just after teammate Seth Kelsey (#10)( 23, Colorado Springs, Colo.), making this the first time in decades that two U.S. men's epee fencers have ranked in the top 16 in the international men's epee field.
