Emily Jacobson topped Mariel Zagunis 15-12 to win the Open Women's Saber at U.S. Fencing's North American Cup at the Richmond Convention Center on Saturday, December 11th.

Jacobson, who holds the No. 2 world ranking in junior women's sabre and 8th in the open world rankings, is a freshman at Columbia University.  Zagunis, the No. 2 women's saber in the world, has been participating in fencing since she was 10. The college freshman is the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Junior World Cup champion and is ranked No. 1 in the world in junior women's saber. 

Ukrainian Anna Garina defeated Hungarian Reka Szele in the Women's Epee event.  The top Americans were Kerry Walton and Lauren Willock who tied for 3rd place.
