2004 and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Mariel Zagunis was awarded the prestigious “Challenge Chevalier Feyerick” at the FIE Congress held November 21st and 22nd 2009.  Zagunis had most recently won the 2009 World Championship in Women's Sabre. The Challenge Chevalier Feyerick is awarded every two years to an individual fencer or team of fencers which  has shown the most chivalrous and unselfish attitude and spirit of sportsmanship. (Chapter XI of the FIE Statutes).

The award gets it's name from Chevalier Feyerick, the Secretary General of the FIE from 1933 to 1940.
