NEW YORK - US fencer Ivan Lee defeated Russian Alexey Yakimenko 15-11 to move into the Final 4 at the New York Grand Prix world cup event. 

 

US fencer Keeth Smart lost in an early round match up against world #4 and top Russian Pozdniakov.  In other early match-ups, Jason Rogers lost to Lukashenko of the Ukraine and Ivan Lee advanced 15-12 against G. Touya of France.

In the match-up between the two team anchors, Smart and Pozdniakov traded touches as Smart built an 8-6 lead at the break.  After the break Pozdniakov and Smart traded a touch each before the Russian closed the match on an 8-0 run.
