Jacobson wins season's first tounament |

 Athens bronze medalist Sada Jacobson (22, Dunwoddy GA) won the Senior women's World Cup competition in Bangkok, Thailand, in the first event since the Athens Olympic Games.
Jacobson prevailed over Yuanyuan Zhao of China for the gold. Zhao had beaten Olympic silver medallist and Chinese teammate Xue Tan the round before. Jacobson, likewise, defeated sister and Athens teammate Emily Jacobson (19, Dunwoody, Ga.) to reach the gold medal bout. Emily Jacobson and Caitlin Thompson both won bronze. "The competition was a showdown between the U.S. and China, who also brought a full squad," said team leader Cathy Zagunis. "It was really a good tournament from that perspective in that we got an early preview of our toughest competitors and yet could see they are beatable!" Other world cup news: Samantha Nemecek (17, Alto, Mich.) and Andras Horanyi (18, Boulder, Colo.) both scored top-eight finishes at strong Junior World Cups in Europe this weekend. Nemecek placed 6th at a junior "A" women's foil World Cup in Lyon, France, and Horyani also took 6th at a junior "A" men's foil World Cup, in Austria. Horanyi is now the third-highest ranked Junior men's foil fencer in the world. |
