Tim Morehouse has been doing a great job keeping us informed as to how the US team is faring at the 2009 Pan American Fencing Championships. The US Men's Sabre squad took 4 of the top 5 spots and Women's Epee added a multi-medal performance with the duo of Courney Hurley and Lindsay Campbell going 1-2.
Day 2 continued to show good performances by the US as Cody Mattern took silver and Seth Kelsey (2008 Olympian) took bronze. In women's foil Nzinga Prescod took the gold and Nicole Ross and Ambika Singh tied for bronze.

Day 3 featured men's foil and women's sabre.

Mariel Zagunis took the women's sabre crown and also earned the 2009 World Cup Title with most world cup points in women's sabre over the entire season.  Zagunis was joined on the podium by Daria Schneider (2nd) and Monica Aksimet (3rd).  Dagmara Wozniak took 5th.

The other 3rd place finish in women's sabre belonged to Eileen Grench, competing for Panama.

In men's foil Kurt Getz defeated Gerek Meinhardt for the gold and Miles Chamley-Watson took 3rd.  Alex Massialas lost in the round of 16 to teammate Getz.

Overall, the US team is dominating with 16 total medals.  Venezuela is second with 4 medals, Canada has 3 bronze medals, and Panama rounds out the medal count with their bronze.

The points earned from this event count towards seeding at the 2009 World Championships, so they will really impact placement at the world championships.
