| Craig--separate board for philosophical discussions? Craig,
Have you considered starting a separate board for people who want to continue the eternal (I say tomahto, you say tomayto) discussions about classical fencing versus sport fencing?
I generally just don't bother reading them, but the static level is sometimes really high.
For instance, if someone starts a discussion about right of way in sport fencing, and someone else answers with a rant about the problems of sport fencing, bent arms, flicks, no fleche in sabre, etc., the rant could be moved to some safe haven where afficianados of such niceties could meet and agree, and the rest of us could use our bandwidth to answer the question within the realm addressed.
Cheers, MR

| Yeah, the signal to noise ratio does tend to get bad during those discussions. What I need to do is go back through the old posts and cut out the good information from the bad info/rants and archive them.
Problem is, I've got over 200MB of posts on this message board that will need to be sorted through eventually. I also need to start culling out some of the posts to save disk space before I hit my limits.
I'll take a look through some of the recent posts and step in when it gets bad.
Thanks,
Craig |

| I don't know that you need to cull the old posts. Just start a separate board now. The problem would be teaching people to rant on the new board, so you wouldn't constantly be moving posts around.
But the current situation is beginning to resemble rec.sport.fencing, where I very seldom go these days. There appear to be a couple of folks who just can't stay on topic.
Cheers, MR

| craig, to fence or not to fence, aye, that is the question. whether tis nobler to take heads with the point, or to suffer the mud-slings of OUTRAGEOUS misfortune, or to die, yea, to [cough, wheeze]die, etc etc etc, is unanswerable and can only be decided by the philosophy of the fencer, the person, yea the entire world. i vote to keep things as they are: a horrible yet fantastic blend of people who dont' know anything, but have alot of opinions. and anyone is free to debate. |

| BUT that is the point, wading through or not to wade through, it IN ITSELF, a philosophical question, not only that, but the very existence of fencing is an existential philosophical question, wherefore?
to whit: what clothes do we wear whilst fencing
what grip shall we hold whilst fencing,
what weapon shall we choose before fencing,
how long the point,
how short the sleeve,
it becomes innumerable,
effible

| This is a fencing discussion board, not a philosophy discussion board or a random post board.
This specific section is for discussion of fencing and fencing only. Other rants, posts, etc. have a nice place called the Water Cooler where they can go.
These posts need to be cleaned up to (1) save readers time and let them get what they want out of this board, which is information and (2) save some hard disk space so I don't have to go eliminating stuff.
In the future, more posts will be moved to the water cooler where appropriate.
Cheers,
Craig |
