"I am not laying back down," Moon retorted. She did, however, return the dagger to its place. "Now why did you barge in here to wake him up? You couldn't just knock like a normal person?" She quickly stood, wrapping herself in the sheets. "And don't threaten me. I'm not afraid of you, you know. Just answer the question."

"I knocked. And then I knocked again, harder. And then I pounded on the door. And neither of you woke up. So I came in. And now here we are, and you're still embarassing yourself. So at least tell me: Where does your husband keep his clothes?"

"I don't know. We were a little pre-occupied last night. Why don't you ask him?" Moon huffed. Meekal made a lame attempt to point toward the floor, but Moon continued. She put her free hand to her hip & said, "Again...what are you doing here?" Needless to say, her sleep addled brain refused to register the reason. So as foolish as she looked, she had to press for the answer.

Nękos considered for a moment the merits of continuing the argument.

"I am leaving," he stated, "now that your husband is awake. I expect him outside in five minutes, so don't start anything."

And he turned on his heel and exited.

"I'd better get dressed," Meekal said in a subdued manner. He dared not look at her as she stood there, his new wife. She even looked good angry...& he had a mission to go on. So, fighting his manly urges, he moved over to his clothing & began to dress. "You can go back to bed if you want."

Moon stomped over to her wardrobe & grabbed her own clothes. "Oh, no I'm not." She muttered to herself as she pulled on her tightening breeches & slid a blouse over her head, saying, "Of all the nerve...barging in on us..." She glared at Meekal, who dressed silently. "Am I missing something here? What am I not supposed to start?"

"I..." He just couldn't bring himself to tell her that he was leaving. Instead, he pulled on his boots, & thought to himself that he really needed to stop at his cottage to get his bag for the journey. Once they were both dressed, he worked up the courage to walk over to Moon, & gave her a kiss. "I love you," he said. Then, he turned & began to leave the room.

"I..." she started. Then, she slid into her shoes & followed him herself. Meekal pulled the door open, & the twosome found a group of people waiting outside their door. "What is going on?" Moon demanded.

"We are going on an expedition up north," Nękos began to explain. "I have already told you about this - we are going to find the dragons. Your husband elected to come with us, in order to prove himself. Additionally, it will give me a chance to know him better, since I will be fighting alongside him all too soon."

"Oh, really?" Moon gave Meekal the look that all married women give to their husbands when those husbands do something very foolish. She folded her arms across her chest, & said, "On what is supposed to be our honeymoon?"

    "Uh...yeah," Meekal returned.

"And how long are you supposed to be gone?" Moon folded her arms & glared at Meekal, who ducked his head & looked to Nękos for help.

"I don't know," Nękos told her, "but it will probably be a while. We'll have a ways to travel, and much of it may have to be on foot."

"'A while'," she parrotted angrily. "Would it be, say, as long as five months?" She raised her eyebrows at Meekal & Nękos, in turn. She knew very little about the birthing of children, but she knew the approximates. And the prospects of being virtually alone to deliver her child, since the father had disappeared, did not appeal to her. And now, her husband was leaving her too...the day after their wedding.

"I cannot say," was the Swordsman's only reply.

"Fine. I'm going as well." Moon spun on her heel before anyone could respond, & re-entered her chamber to pack.

Nękos gave Meekal a pitying look. "I take it you'll be wanting some assistance."

    "It would be greatly appreciated."

"Moon," he called in after the scribe, "you're not coming with us. You just aren't. Just like I said at the Holly Dayye Inn."

"That's nice," she called in return, grabbing a bag & moving to her wardrobe to dump some clothing in.

"This is about to get amusing," Ken-Dall whispered to Darion, who grinned.

"Why don't you save your strength," the Swordsman called. "Packing isn't going to do you any good, because I'm not letting you out this door until we're long gone."

Moon returned to the door, bag in hand. "Too bad. I'm going. You're taking my husband & leaving me here for Craig knows how long. I won't be having this baby alone!" She put her hand on her hip & stuck her chin out, giving them her "so there" look.

"Moon," he continued patiently, "how exactly do you intend to force us to take you along?"

Moon glared at Nękos for a moment. She gave him a slow grin, then glared at Meekal. "Remember last night?"

"Uh...yeah." He began to turn red, remembering.

"Don't even think you'll get anymore of that if I don't go with you."

"I...I..." Meekal stood there, at a loss. His new wife had pulled the dreaded "cut off" card. "I think she should go..." he managed with a gulp.

Nękos face seemed to turn black. He glanced about him briefly to make sure that Meekal was still in the hallway with him, along with everybody else. Confirming this, he marched quickly into the room, slammed the door behind him, and wedged a chair beneath the latch. As Moon turned slowly to him with a victorious air half showing through her careful mask of apathy, he suddenly grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her back, pinning her against the wardrobe she had been removing clothes from.

The mask evaporated in an instant, fear replacing it.

    "What are you - "

"Shut up," he snarled. "I warned you about hurting him. I understand you're not happy about this at all, but you do not manipulate your own husband! Do you understand me?"

"Let...me...go," she said between clenched teeth. Through her fear, a spark of anger ignited, fanned as she struggled to get away. "I am not staying here!" Hot tears began to form as images of what lay ahead entered her brain.

"No. You are not moving until you start to see clearly. And then, you are still not coming with us. I will not risk you on this mission. Not with child, especially."
