| My only problem is that the blade contact sound seems to occur after the white light is set off. Maybe there was so codec problems for me? In slo-mo, the call seems correct, but I don't get to hear the sound then, so it's not clear when the blade contact occurred.
BTW, does anyone else feel that Romankov (at least in this instance) moved a lot like Dick King from Cardinal Fencing Club? Most of you don't know Dick King, but for those who do, doesn't Romankov's footwork and unarmed hand position just remind you of someone (Dick King)?
Veeco?

Veeco? | Not really... The unarmed hand position yes, a little at the beginning, but the footwork definitely not, and the body position neither.

| It would be immediately after the green light riposte. Then, Romankov walks with a bit of a stiff leg and holds his hand in that distinctive stump-hand position.

| I believe the white light was scored shortly before the parry came in. |

I watched it quite a few times, and it looks like the attack landed before the parry.

| The clip is off a dvd, which is a reproduction of a vhs tape from the 1980's. The sound and video are great, considering. One thing I noticed while grabbing clips off this video -- sometimes the smaller sounds don't come through so good. In this clip we get the loud noise when Romankov's riposte clashes against Koch's blade, but the light sound of the earliser parry is muted, or doesn't register on the audio track. labouche, grey -- you are correct. The remise lands looong before Romankov's riposte (in part because Romankov had to turn). But still, it's nothing but a remise... the riposte has right of way. The director calls it correctly... but until I got it, I had a long moment of Whuhuh? |
