The successful fencer is one who achieves the goals they set for themselves.

Even unrated fencers are successful if they are happy with their performance.

I truly belive that the success in fencing is purely personal. The success I find in it is that I enjoy it... every single time I fence I love it... In other words, I do believe that someone has success in fencing only if they believe they do...

    Completely agree Ramrod!

    Mr. Terasico and Fencing.net crew,
You raise an interesting point- I'll say the the object is indeed to win bouts . . . however I don't belive thats enough, that just makes a fencer good! I know a few good fencers I do not consider sucessful as fencers, and a bunch more that are very sucessful. Unfortunately this does not make them Sucessful Humans- or whatever you use for people you respect not just as athletes, but as people. There is for me a differance. Sucess in fencing is some combination of willing to work, and enjoying the sport as well as good sportsmanship, and honesty about fencings importance to the rest of the world.
I don't consider myself a sucessful fencer- at least right now- I could be working more, A better sportsman, and enjoy what I do more- however I am being honest with myself about how important it is to me and "nonfencers!" at this point in my life.
    Cheers,
    B.
