Array N E chance of ranking let's say you have a U rankng and you went to JO's where would you have to place to gain any ranking. or is it up to whom you beat.
yes i know it is unlikely to be anything but dead f last while being a U but - it's just because i'm not a big tournament go-r Fencing will always be a "for love of the game" sport.
I need a good arse kicking to get better, faster! -

Array You have to place a certain level to obtain a classification. Still, the only thing that matters is whether there's a medal around your neck. Not some letter signifying...um...your seeding level at your next few tournaments. -

Array It depends on what your final ranking is. Last year, Jr. ME was an A4, so you would gain a rating by placing anywhere in the top 48.
You will have to fence very well to get that rating, and be prepared to take down some "better" fencers.

Array I think I would just concentrate on fencing well and not worry about this other stuff. "Let him live upon what belongs to him without wronging others, and accommodate his expense to his revenue."

Array rating is kinda important going into bigger tournaments, because if you are a U you will probably have an A, a B, and at least one C in the Junior. . . If you ARE the C or the B it's one person in the pool who is not rated higher, and in theory, better than you. Or you can just go and beat everyone and not worry about it! Homestarrunner forever!~!

Array I should note that ratings, on the whole, tend to mean jack. Sure, most 'A's are pretty good, and can kick the posterior of any 'U', but sometimes things go funny. Not to brag, but I, a 'U', have beaten a 'B' 3-5 and a 'C' 0-5. I hesatate to extrapolate from personal experience to general rules, but a rating is not protection against having a bad day, a hangover, or just being stupid. The only way to atone for being occasionally a little over-dressed is by being always absolutely over-educated. -Oscar Wilde -

Array Go ahead and extrapolate, it very often happens that way with lots of people. There are whole ranges within each rating, ie weak Cs, middling Cs and strong Cs, etc. ( Even, at the risk of starting up another Holy War on the subject, the occasional "fluke" C. ) And so forth. Then there are the fencers who, regardless of rating, just "have your number". Or whose number you have.
All in all, it really is mostly a seeding device that sorts itself out GENERALLY by ability... -
This is JOs that they're talking about... so probably no hangovers from the night before... the next morning's probably different. -
