| Rose in Shreveport Just saw the final standings for the men's epee at a tourney in Shreveport this weekend. Aufrichtig came in second to Hicks. Who is that guy?
I figure the event had to be fairly edgy, because it attracted Zich all the way from NYC to compete in saber. So it wasn't a friendly backyard sort of competition, no? |

| Victor -- where did you see the final standings? Are they available online? I have people fencing in the tournament, and I'm dying to see results.
About Aufrichtig -- he makes the pilgrimage down from NYC every year to fence in the Rose Condon Memorial, because he grew up in Shreveport. He sometimes brings high-level fencers with him -- Jon Normile, Carpenter, Bayer. So maybe the NY sabreur was encouraged by michael to show up. Or maybe the tournament is getting just that big.
This tournament, and the Crescent City Open, seem to be two of the South's strongest. And by South, I mean "easy driving distance from my house."
(EDIT: If you were asking "who is that guy" about Aufrichtig, Michael Aufrichtig is the owner of http://www.FencingFootage.com. He won Epee Nationals Div 1A in 1999 or 2000.)

| Woo! Good link... I was at almdiv.org earlier, but I guess I missed it. Thanks!
About Hicks -- the name seems familiar to me, but Hicks is a common name. I don't know anything about him. A search on askfred.net doesn't yield anything either: Askfred search link. |

| Interesting day when an A and a bunch of Bs all end up that far down the list behind a bunch of U's.

| I received some e-mails about the event. I had hoped to be there for it, thanks guys for keeping me in the loop. Your events are usually great, you bring people in from all over. I miss the fencing there very much, the group was terrific, especially the vets and us sitting around the Holidy Inn being vets and sort of grungy. Well I moved,[whaaa], but it's better for me here than there, the climate is so cold and I couldn't handle the rain every day with the floods as all. |

| Woot! Got students in 7th, 10th and 35th in Open Foil. Looked like a nice and reasonably strong tournament. |

Even U's can have a "hot" day. Proof is in staying power over the long haul.

| Who is that guy? Hicks is one of the Southwest Sections stronger epee fencers. Het fences out of Oklahoma and has done fairly well in the past at Div 1-A Nationals in the like, but I'm not sure if he has made the trip the last few years.
As for the U's making it pretty high, one of those is a high level guy who hadn't fenced in about 10 years and just recently came back. As for the level of the tournament, it's growing very large, especially considering this is only the 4th one. I still believe tha t the Longhonr and Crescent city are bigger, but the latter not too much. (How do we in Shreveport compete with such a fun town as New Orleans?)
Also, we try to fly in special guests each year to try to guarantee the strongest possible tournaments that we can. This year we were very close to haveing an "A" tournament in all three weapons, at the last minute one of the Atlanta Fencers had to back out.
Feel free to contact me with any questions that you may hvae about the tournament, we plan on continuing to grow it as best we can.
