| Foreign Language Speakers Hello. You all know who I am, so I shall get right to the point. I need the help of foreign language speakers to aid in translating my website for German, French, Russian and Spanish speakers. I can't offer any money; this is purely on a voluntary basis. Credit in full (or not, if you prefer) will be given. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My website is down for the moment, but I can be reached at: ******_the_hutt@yahoo.com
Replace the asteriks with the first part of my name. |

| No, I don't know who you are. Judging from the content of your Profile, I don't think I want to either.
Use Alta Vista's Babel fish http://world.altavista.com/
then ask native speakers of the language to make corrections for you then the job is less onerous since you don't pay.

Ta da. I now have two websites for you to view in the event that one is ever broken.
My first name goes where the asteriks are.
Some people reported issues with the redirect. You can use the direct links if the redirect doesn't do its job: http://e.1asphost.com/******dhutt/ http://free.hostdepartment.com/f/******dhutt/
First name where the asterisks are.

I would be grateful for your help. I'll PM you (and everyone else who is helping) with details. As for the error, after you open the link, you need to get rid of the asteriks, and put the first word in my name where the asteriks used to be. |

Yep, the sites are up and running. I've had about 200+ visitors so far. I got a few hits from Canada, France and Germany, which is why I needed the language translators. (Anyone know what language Estonians speak?) Anyhoo, go to Fencingsucks.com and copy/paste my website link from there. I'll make a new post in the 'Fencers' section that my contact information, homepage address for both site mirrors, and the two site gateways. The subject will be your username here at Fencing101.
I did get two photos from someone to my Yahoo! e-mail account. One picture was of two foilists, the other two epeeists... are those the ones you sent?

| Cantonese... Hm. That would be interesting. I don't know if my HTML editor can use that language, but I'll see if it does. Let me get back to you on that. |

Also, I'm in the other two-You can tell me apart because I'm the one with the red hair; one at the same tourny, and another at the Overland Park national... Not to mention my e-mail adress has part of my fencing.net screen name

| whatever you do, DON'T use a babelfish translator.
it doesn't make things easier. no no no. quite the opposite.
last quarter, i got a 100 (yes, out of 100) in the highest level of french (AP french) that my school offers. personally, i'm not a fan of you enough to actually work my tail off for you for free. however, i will caution you on using translators...
translators work well when you want a vague idea- about a song in a different language, a website in a different language... but a vague idea is all you get. it works passibly so that you understand what's going on- for instance, when i'm writing a research paper in french, my research is open in the original french in one window, and the rough babelfish translation in another. when i write, i write IN FRENCH. thinking in english DOES NOT HELP. idiomatic expressions are different (I am afriad, or I have fear... all the way to- i have a frog in my throat, or i have a cat in my throat...). tenses are different... "i want cheese" and "i want you to do your homework" are the same verb in english- not so in french.
when you think in your native tongue, you create complex sentances you'll have a very hard time translating into french, especially if you try word for word. and thus, when you type complicated sentances into a tranlator, it does it word by word, not sentance by sentance. translators have no sense of context.
an example: a paragraph from a french website
Libérée par le nouveau roi, Richard Cœur de Lion, Aliénor a encore fort à faire pour sauver la mise de son cher fils tandis qu'il est fait prisonnier en Allemagne, à son retour de Croisade. Son frère Jean n'hésite pas en effet à s'associer à Philippe Auguste pour le dépouiller de son pouvoir. the same paragraph, gone through babelfish
Released by the new king, Richard Lion Heart, Aliénor have still extremely to make to save the setting of expensive sound wire while it is made prisoner in Germany, on his return of Crusade. His/her Jean brother indeed does not hesitate to join to Philippe Auguste to strip it of his capacity
you get the basic idea- Richard the Lion Heart, some chick, Germany, Crusades, someone's brother, Philippe Auguste.
however- expensive sound wire? strip it of his capacity?
"un fils" is "a son", i beleive "a wire" is "un(e?) fil"--- easy to make a mistake, n'est pas?
this clearly isn't in an english that makes sense.
fixing the problems online tranlators make takes MUCH more time than finding someone who speaks the language proficiently to translate. |

Thank you. I was already aware of the poor translations supplied by Babelfish and the like, but your helpful response strengthens my resolve to find good translators. Albatros did a great job of translating my site, and I will be posting the German version of my website within a few days. |
