Array Super-duper interview Craig. Keep em coming.
Anyone want to clarify how making the weapon arm on-target if it is blocking valid target area would make calling points easier for referees? Seems like it would be another judgement call that makes refereeing harder.

Array If the colored light goes on, it is a touch. What is done the lame material on the arm is not normally connected to the rest of the lame. If the arm stays out, there is no contact. If the arm comes down to parry, it will be in contact.
To me it sounds like a poor plan, but it has been proposed. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array I found his comment about Italian / German
ref style right of way vs. French ref style ROW interesting. In neither description is there any mention about arms extended or extending - as in the endless "interpretations" that are discussed on this board. That, and the impact "reputation" seems to have on officials at the world level.... -

Array Very good article! I agree with much of what Golubitsky says although I think the only change that sounds like it might be good is the spring being changed to 750 grams. Other than that, I would be happy if foil was left almost exactly the same.

Array Craig,
Thanks for this--even a poor, thick-headed sabreur finds this very interesting.
I thought his comment in favor of the change in the tips to be quite interesting--he felt it was good to favor the straight attack over the flick (of course, this is a guy who perfected a straight thrust counter, closing the line, into a flick.

Array Thank you Craig, that was excellent.
His insight, i.e. giving the differnet ref interpretations names, help in the understanding of the diff't interpretations.
As one who's been taught by French INS Maitres d'Amres, now i know where to lay the blame on the deterioration of foil reffing...
It's the German/Italian schools. [The Sovits/Russians etc., IMHO, follows the French school.]
