That's not why you need to wear a cup. You need to wear a cup when the attacker hits you on your thigh and the blade springs up and whacks you in the doo-dads. THAT'S when you need to wear a cup. Yeow!

CORRECT! That's the one time fencing, I thought I was gonna puke. Some rank beginner came running in and jabbed my thigh. When it released and sprang up, I think I would have just rather gone ahead and died...........

The "cup" seems to be the one thing that no one has thought about modernizing. I hav a hard plastic cup that feels like a hubcap and a nice foam one that I can wear comfortably but haven't really had it put to the test yet, if you know what I mean. It's not something that I want to experiment with
And what's with this one size fits all stuff? You would think that with all of the pro sports athletes out there someone whould invent something form fitting, yet sturdy enough to take a licking.

All I know is I've been fencing four months at this point and I've already been hit in the crotch like four times. When I say hit in the crotch I mean the blade went under the jacket, and at all four times I didn't yet have knickers so it was quite unpleasant. One time I had to stop fencing for like fifteen minutes as I writhed on the floor.

How many more times is it going to take before you invest in some protection?
I bought some great NIKE baseball compression shorts that have a built in cup holder and pads that cover the top and outside of the thigh to protect from those pesky attacks that you parry down.
