WOO! Women's epee!!!

So I'm having a brag fest

"My" women's epee team? They kick butt!

We had a team event this weekend, and I could just kinda float up to the ceiling. Both my "new" and "relatively new" epeeists fenced exceptionally. More so, they had a great time, and they were great sports. I had the best time fencing with them. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they blew whatever I was expecting out of the water.

My newest epeeist (2 weeks of epee) really made a couple of touchy (egotistical) fencers angry when she took them to labelle.
*snickers* And we won... I think we won at least half out team events. *jaw on floor* I just wanted them to go fence, and have a good time, but... WOOOO!!!

I watched some fencers this weekend get really up-tight about if they were going to win the event or not. I am most sincerely glad "my" women aren't this way. Yup, I'll keep em.

MyraTrue,

Well that's just because of all the great advice you got on that other thread. [grin] Awesome outcome though! Doesn't being a coach ROCK!!???

Take it easy.

It WAS great advice. I tried and am trying to use it. I DO have to give them some of the credit here too. Well... LOTS of credit.

And my great coaching wisdom became, with help from the mens foil captain, "Stab her, stab her first, and stab her more times than she stabs you. And go have fun." And then I'd sit back and yell and holler every time they did or didn't get a point. I was waiting for someone to comment on the "damn noisy fencer".

I watched the mens team sweat out each point, and get tense and grumpy, and to bemoan not winning, and so on. I went there to fence my best, and since they did too, well... all *I* can ask from them.

Myra,

A wise old fencer once told me,

"Good fencers endeavour not to commit suicide"

So I tend to yell at my kids, "Ohhhhhh. Hari Kari! No, don't run into that point. ARGH! Bad fencer. Bad fencer." when they get touched, and "WOOOHOOO! See? Don't commit suicide! Good advice, eh?"

That and, for occasionally sweet points, "YES! That was PERFECT! Now do it again."

[grin]

Welcome to coaching Myra. May your reign be long and true. You're hooked now. Mind as well invest in a cool coaching jacket.

Take it easy.

Thanks Army!

I guess now I've got to teach them to straighten their blades. I feel awful that the two epee blades I wired up for our leftie (most of the blades are used in the armory) kink every time she hits someone. So she'd look at me to come unkink them... which got a little funny after the 5th time in a bout.

I guess, speaking of I'd better get to practice.
