    Ugliest national flag around

    Hi!

So, which national flag do you think is ugliest, purely from an estetical point of view? Personally I think that they should be too complicated, and be easy to identify from a distance against clear sky.

Remember, this is purely looks, donīt let your opinion of the country color your opinion of the flag - a detached mode of thought, without emontionality, is always best.

    Have a nice time!

I vote for Canada's flag for ugliest. The leaf just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I don't know if it's the ugliest, but Libya's has to be the most boring, least imaginative of all - did somebody just have an old green blanket they weren't using?

    Peter,

I think you meant "...shouldn't be too complicated,..." am I correct?

Happens to the best of us.

I'm glad for you that you didn't list your location...

    For me:
    There are too many tricolours.
I guess the French Tricolor was the original...the others are copycats all.

The Cdn Maple Leaf is simple - two colours, if you consider white as a colour - and unique. It only came about after a lot of soul-searching. It was deemd neccessary becuase some Cdns think that we should rid ourselves of the Union Jack in the old Cdn flag.

    Ugliest Flag

Alright! one of my favourite topics! Here we go...I think originality counts in a flag, if you were to look at the Malaysian flag, er, it's like totally lacking in it! It closely resembles The flag of USA with its stripes and star, colours entirely the same, I think the artist for this flag must have run out of ideas and thought this could be an easy way to inspire pride in the citizens, Not! Total lack of originality. Just to be fair and not to let others say that I am criticizing a bad neighbour's flag, I have something to say about my country's flag too, it smacks too much of a particular religion with its crescent moon and stars, if you know what I'm driving at..and No, Singapore is not a religious state, the crescent moon signifies a nascent nation, which I cannot comprehend! I don't like the national colours too (red and white) I prefer the combination of black, blue and white, which I think is either Lithuania or Estonia?

And ya, I think Rwanda's flag sucks too, what's with that big 'R'? I kinda like Egypt's flag, solely because of that stylised eagle..haha. Let me see..Canada's flag looks good, simple with a good stylised maple leaf, if Mexico's flag can simplify its logo in the centre, it might look good, the logo looks like a jumbled mess, I can't quite decipher what it is, any Mexcicans here? The same goes for Portugal's flag, jumbled crest in the middle. The Union Jack looks alright I must say, although the cross of St.Andrew's of Scotland looks really nice. I think Jamaica's flag looks exotic enough with its combination of a cross and the colours of black, white and green.

    yes pkt

I do know about the union jack, and still don't like it, hehe.

Having thought about this (I love flags), I've decided my favourites are

Seychelles, Sweden, Finland, EU, Estonia, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Denmark, Switzerland and Norway (Hell yeah, Norway is the king of flags)

    also

The black, blue and white flag sgfoilist was talking about is Estonia, and it's lovely. ahhh

Also, the Mexican flag is an image of a quetzl bird sitting on a cactus with a snake in it's mouth.

    I think

    You are obviously a cross-lover.

Seeing that text and pictures of real stuff rank high on the donīt like list, a prime canidate for ugliest flag should be Saudi Arabia. OTOH, that flag is adorned with two sabres, which should be a redeeming quality with fencing101-ers.

South Africa: went from a flag with a pale orange (bleh) with three small flags inside it to a combination of several strong colors, contrasting in a bad way. From bad to bad, in another way.

    Have a nice time!
