Good shoes @ Santelli Looking for new shoes. Anyone try the France Llames available at Santelli? -
They look ugly. And looks are everything in fencing.

Array Hi,
My first pair of fencing shoes was the type made by France Lame but not sold under their name (they called them something like "Tisza"). They worked well for me, they wore quickly right at the beginning but then shoed no further signs of wear for another two years at which point they fell apart over the course of about 2-3 months. I then replaced them with the current France Lame shoes after being assured by the Santelli folk that they were much better than the Tiszas and should wear better (they were surprised that my Tiszas had lasted 2 years, apparently they had a rep for quick self-distruction that I wasn't aware of). I bought the new shoes in Austin last summer, by December they were unwearable, I'd come through the bottoms of BOTH shoes and nearly through the side. I now own a pair of the asymmetrix shoes from adidas and haven't noticed any problems with them.
I'd STRONGLY advise against getting the France Lame shoes, my experience shows that they just don't hold up.
Hope that helps prevent someone from making the same mistake I did.

The best and cheepest shoes for fencing : volleyball shoes -
I had a pair a few years ago.
they were quite comfortable, as i recall, but the soles wore down to smooth (and slippery) rather fast...then the side of left (back) foot exploded. the material just fell apart at the seams.
just my $0.02, but i'm much happier with my much more expensive adidas shoes now.
has anyone had luck with the Star-Fighters? A teammate of mine has them, and he has no complaints, not yet...

Array One of my team members has a pair of starfighters which he's retiring when his new asymmetrix shoes finally (on backorder). He's had them for at least several years and was very happy with them, they've just finally worn out and he tried on my adidas's and decided to splurge with his new shoes. From everything I could tell from him the starfighter's were good shoes that held up well.

I have never heard of anyone complaining about their Star Fighters. However, they don't look as sharp as Adidas shoes... and we all know that looks is what count.

But Space cadet,
Looks isn't everything that counts...
Star fighters might not look as cool as your adidas. But it's definitely a good price if u compare price vs. quality.
lets not let our judgment be effected by the elitism attitude...
the sport already has enough of this... -

Array Just had my old pair of adidas resoled by a local shoe guy and the soles RULE!!!! He used some VIBRAM material and they are better than the original sole-- much more springier! Although I'll have to see how they wear on a copper strip. "Kill the men, save the women, and by the gods, do not spill the wine" -
