Pastrons are out of vogue new resistant jackets are in?

What's this about plastrons being out of vogue replaced by new design jackets? Plastrons will still be in the FIE rules as acceptable right? Anything else to share on this?

This is a VERY wrong supposition! The fencing community suffered some pretty devastating accidents, including the death of a French epeeist, when fencers erroneously thought that plastrons were unnecessary because of the higher strength of the 1600 newton jackets. I believe that this was in the early 90's. A fencer in Texas suffered a punctured lung in such an accident.

It is not a question of being in or out of vougue, they are REQUIRED but FIE and USFA rules. Anyone who fences, or lets some one fence, without a plastron is inviting trouble and a possible lawsuit.
Remember those who put their lives in danger for your sake.
